Published News Photos & Clippings

Very early in my career I was a photojournalist and did freelance work and shot on spec for The New York Times, The New York Daily News, The Associated Press, UPI, and The Hudson Dispatch, among other news organizations. I was what they used to call a stringer. I also did portraits and events, including quinceaneras and weddings. The pictures that follow are some of my favorite published work. I am featuring mostly photos from 1977. I chose these from dozens of published and hundreds unpublished news photos. This is a work in progress. I plan to add more photos as I go through my library.

The World Trade Center during the 1977 New York City blackout, as seen from Jersey City, NJ. The towers had their own power generator, so they were one of the few buildings in New York to remain lit during the blackout which lasted over 20 hours.

Firemen pour water on what's left of a paint store in Union City, New Jersey,  after a disastrous fire. When I framed the photo it looked like a World War II scene. This award winning photo was one of the winners of the Ilfospeed £1,000 Competition.

Run! Onlookers and firemen run as a building on fire collapses in front of them. Union City, New Jersey. The photo was picked up by The Associated Press.

This photo ran as a 1/3 page, part of a spread the NY Daily News dedicated to a major NYC Fire. The funny thing was that I first offered the photo to the Daily News, which declined it. The AP picked it up and low and behold the Daily News ran it the next day in the Sunday paper's centerfold.

This was another New York City skyline photo during the 1977 blackout. This photo was picked up by French news agency Gamma/Liason and ran mostly in newspapers in the Middle East.

More to come. I will be adding more photos as I go through my library.
